Marking 100 years with Fred

Round two with Private Fred Arsenault. I first photographed Fred at his son’s home prior to his 100th birthday, thanks to an introduction from Lieutenant Colonel Barry Pitcher. Following our first shoot the Arsenault family invited me back to be part of Fred’s actual birthday held at the Sunnybrook Veteran Centre in Toronto.  

The amount of people that attended from both the Canadian Armed Forces as well as dignitaries as far as France and Holland. It was amazing to see the public and international outpouring of love that he was showered with. When asked about his time during WWII all Fred said is that he did what he was sent there to do.

Truly blessed to be around him and his family.

J'ai photographié Fred pour la première fois au domicile de son fils avant son 100e anniversaire, grâce à une présentation du lieutenant-colonel Barry Pitcher. Après notre première séance, la famille Arsenault m'a invité à participer à l'anniversaire de Fred, qui a eu lieu au Sunnybrook Veteran Centre à Toronto.

Le nombre de personnes présentes, issues des Forces armées canadiennes et de dignitaires venant de France et des Pays-Bas, était impressionnant. C'était incroyable de voir l'effusion d'amour dont il a été l'objet de la part du public et du monde entier. Lorsqu'on lui a demandé ce qu'il avait fait pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Fred a simplement répondu qu'il avait fait ce qu'on l'avait envoyé faire.

J'ai eu beaucoup de chance d'être avec lui et sa famille.

With a career spanning more than a decade, Trevor Godinho is an internationally recognized artist and published photographer, his work gracing the pages of Vogue Italia, Elle Canada, FHM France & India, Men’s Health Australia, Sharp Magazine, and much more.

His skill, vision, and passion for his art have led him to travel and establish a reputation in Toronto, New York City, Miami, Los Angeles, London, Milano, and Perth – putting him and his camera in front of notable personalities and Hollywood’s leading men and women. In 2017, Trevor was named the Canadian brand ambassador to Elinchrom Limited (based out of Switzerland).

In addition to photography, having graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree, Trevor’s creative range also includes painting, sculpture, and design. His mastery of these disciplines has led to his work being exhibited at Coldstream Fine Art and the Gardiner Museum in Toronto.

Trevor continues to mentor the next generation of aspiring photographers and artists, who he hopes will continue to tell human interest stories with vision and expressiveness. Trevor is an active supporter of local charities, including NATO Association of Canada, Jays Care Foundation, Remix Project, and CTV and Salvation Army’s Toy Mountain.

Trevor currently resides in Toronto, Canada.
