Making Things Happen

Here’s a funny story behind my shoot with Warrant Officer Christina Connelly – Retired and Master Corporal Tamar Freeman – Retired. I was introduced to Connelly by Master Corporal Edmund Chien – Retired, who has been an amazing supporter of the project since we initially talked about the concept.

I always say things happen fast and you need to figure out how to make it work. This was just that, after back and forth emails with Connelly, she advised she was willing to travel to Vancouver from Victoria to be part of the project and would be able to bring her friend Freeman. Little did they know we would be shooting outside of a Brick department store - using the wall of the building as our backdrop. This was the solution to the problem of where to shoot especially since with COVID-19 cases growing and not having a studio in Vancouver at the time, I needed to figure something out.

Since it was just us three, Connelly and Freeman played my assistant while I photographed the other, the funny moment was when a gust of wind stole my umbrella modifier and Freeman speeded full throttle to catch the umbrella before it took flight.

Definitely one of the funny moments behind the Honour Country Sacrifice project.
